Cost

Traditionally, electric vehicles (EVs) have been more expensive than their diesel/petrol (ICE) counterparts, though prices are now stabilising and may fall over time as technology improves and production scales up.

Operational costs for EVs are generally lower, as electricity tends to be cheaper than fossil fuels. EVs have fewer moving parts and generally require less maintenance as a result.

Government Incentives

As part of the collective commitment to reduce carbon emissions, there are currently various incentives on offer to encourage the adoption of electric vehicles. These include SEAI grants, reduced vehicle registration tax, and benefit in kind (BIK) tax advantages for businesses and employees alike.

The Electric Vehicle Home Charger Grant is also available to offset the cost of installing an electric vehicle charge point on their property.

The variety of electric cars and vans available on the market has been increasing, with major manufacturers offering a wide range of new models.

Charging Infrastructure

While Ireland is expanding its network of public charging stations, the density and reliability of this network is crucial, especially for fleet vehicles that cover more ground.

We can assist with the installation and include the cost of chargers at home or at your business. A government grant for home chargers of €300 is currently available.
